Tom Shacklock - Assistant Coach

As part of my developing role as child welfare officer I have undertaken some courses so that I am suitably qualified (for example the protection and well being of children course). For this position I have to maintain the safety and well being of the children involved within this clubs activities. I started playing volleyball two years ago when I first met Denise Austin, I thought that it was another sporting avenue that I could be extremely competitive in. My desire to achieve stems from an ultra competitive background due to participating frequently in national military 4 x 4 navigational driving events, as well as national civilian navigational events, and county driving competitions (called Tyro's). To date my highest volleyball based sporting achievement was finishing 20th out of 24 in the sixth division (competing against players such as the South West U18 beach volleyball champion - Jack Walker as well as Tristan Dampney), during the grandslam held at Croyde beach in North Devon, (Goldcoast Oceanfeast), being my first ever beach tournament it adds sentimental value to my significant achievement. I have also participated in the national colleges cup with North Devon College (representing both the mixed team and the male team). |

Jack Walker - Assistant Coach

Jack first started playing volleyball at Braunton secondary school where he first found his desire for the sport. He continued playing both beach and indoor volleyball when he went to North Devon College. As Treasurer of the club he collects the money from training on friday nights and any money spent on buying equipment etc. I also collect the money used to pay for qualifications. He himself was the first junior member to qualify as a level 1 coach and has gone on to become a level 4 referee. As a player Jack has achieved most at beach volleyball with his partner Ashley Yeo however he continues to play indoor, mainly at college, and was voted the most valuable player at the end of the first year. |

Lee Jackson - Treasurer

| Roles and Responsibilities: |
Jake Stebbings - Web Designer

Jake Stebbings is the current web designer and manager, he took a small interest into volleyball during coaching sessions that Denise did at Braunton School and after that he was asked to take up maintenance of the website. Hope you like the new one! |
Claire FalloW - Press Officer
![]() |
Claire first started playing volleyball whilst studying for A levels at North Devon College and played with Denise in a very successful squad. She then moved away from the area but found that it was a sport that she could play in most places that her job took her, although has only really played at local league standard. She recently moved back down to Barnstaple, older and wiser, and has enjoyed getting involved with the beach academy and playing again. |
| Roles and Responsibilities: | Press Officer |
Gemma McCaffrey - Club Secretary

Gemma first played volleyball at primary school when Denise hosted a series of taster sessions. Since then she has played volleyball for the Academy of Beach Sports, Braunton School and Community College and North Devon College, and will be participating in the South West Women's league next season. |

Ruth Lovell - Assistant Head Coach & Junior Development Officer
![]() |
I first started playing volleyball in my home town of Wildhaus in Switzerland when I was 10, By the time I was 12 our team came second in the Swiss Schools National Championships. From then we trained regularly four times a week until my late teens, when I was also training with the Swiss National Junior team (Unfortunately only bench warming). On moving to England I didn’t play any volleyball until meeting Denise when I was 32. Since then we have started the North Devon College Volleyball Academy and have become the Junior Development Officer for the Academy. The nicest part of the work I do was going to the Devon Youth Games and seeing the teams I have coached taking part in their first tournaments. From the work to create teams for the Devon Youth Games, we have started the U14 Saturday morning league (9:30-12:00) which has proved really successful and on the 15th Nov South West Grand Prix event we have 9 teams taking part. This year we are also holding a Satellite South West Volleyball Association event at the North Devon College which is a land mark for the Academy. |
